Panel Discussion
Examining the Changing Landscape of Labor Mediation and Impasse Resolution
Program
The panel will feature perspectives from FMCS Field Operations Manager, FMCS Deputy Director of Field Operations, American Arbitration Association (AAA) representative Aaron Schmidt, and independent mediator/arbitrator Mike Franczak. Together, the panelists will explore what the whittling down of public mediation means for collective bargaining, how the shift toward private dispute resolution could affect negotiations, and what practitioners should expect going forward. This discussion will also focus on questions of neutrality and access to mediation—making it especially relevant for union representatives, management advocates, neutrals, and anyone working in labor relations today.
