This presentation will provide information regarding how employers can effectively prepare for and defend against U.S. Department of Labor audits.
During this event, the speaker will explore how employers can effectively prepare for and defend against U.S. Department of Labor audits, including proactive compliance strategies, documentation best practices, and common pitfalls that can trigger enforcement actions. Although Department of Labor audits are often an underdiscussed risk, they can result in significant financial penalties, operational disruption, reputational harm, and potential legal liability for employers that are unprepared. Attendees will gain practical insights into reducing audit exposure and responding confidently when regulatory scrutiny arises.

Daniel Sabol
Mr. Sabol joined Clemans Nelson (CNA), in 2026, and is the Director of Administrative Practice and Investigations. Mr. Sabol represents clients before the State Employment Relations Board (SERB), the Ohio Civil Rights Commission (OCRC), the Equal Employment Opportunities Commission (EEOC), and other administrative agencies, as well as oversee CNA’s workplace investigations. He advises clients in human resource management, labor relations, negotiations, regulatory compliance, discipline, and policy development. Mr. Sabol also regularly conducts training on a variety of human resource and labor issues such as Fair Labor Standards Act, Family and Medical Leave Ave, Americans with Disability Act, discrimination/harassment, and the use of social media in the workplace.
Prior to joining CNA, Mr. Sabol worked as a Labor Relations Administrator for SERB. In his position as a Labor Relations Administrator and Administrative Law Judge, Mr. Sabol oversaw SERB’s Unfair Labor Practice Investigations and Representation sections, with his department processing, investigating, and making final recommendations on approximately 1,300 cases over four years.
Prior to joining SERB, Mr. Sabol represented public and private employers in a wide range of labor and employment practice areas, with a focus on public sector labor law. This included representing public employers in CBA negotiations, grievance hearings, arbitrations, and fact findings, as well as advising employers, boards, commissions, administrators, and human resource directors on compliance with federal, state and local laws and regulations.
Mr. Sabol is a member of the Labor and Employment Law Section Council of the Ohio State Bar Association. He received his B.A. in Business with Concentrations in Management & Marketing from Wittenberg University and his J.D. from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law.
