Detroit Area LERA presents:

Healthy Work, Healthy Mind: Rethinking Workplace Mental Health Through the Lens of Labor and Employee Relations

FEATURED SPEAKER:

RANDALL HARRISON
Senior Deputy Director of Labor
Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO)
Office of Labor

Workplace mental health is no longer simply an employee wellness issue, it is increasingly a workforce, organizational culture, safety, retention, and employee-relations issue.

This session will introduce participants to the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity’s Healthy Work Healthy Mind initiative and explore how the conditions under which people work can directly influence their mental health, physical health, engagement, and overall well-being. LEO’s research emphasizes the effects of chronic workplace stress and the role employers can play by examining organizational culture, policies, practices, and working conditions that may either contribute to, or help alleviate, employee stress. Participants will explore the relationship between workplace mental health and issues familiar to labor and employment-relations professionals, including workload, staffing, employee voice, supervisory practices, psychological safety, job control, discrimination and harassment, work-life demands, and organizational change.

The session will also highlight how LEO is moving from research and awareness to action through Healthy Work Healthy Mind, including education, employer resources, Mental Health First Aid concepts, and the LEADS framework—Learn, Educate, Act, Deploy and Study— which is designed to help employers assess workplace needs, engage employees, examine policies and work processes, implement changes, and measure progress.

Refreshments will be provided. This event is FREE to attend. Registration is required!
