Professor Harry C. Katz
Professor Harry C. Katz, past president of LERA, will be the speaker at our NorCal LERA Inaugural Virtual Event. He is the Jack Sheinkman Professor of Collective Bargaining at the School of Industrial & Labor Relations at Cornell University, Director of Scheinman Institute on Conflict Resolution also at ILR School, Cornell University, and President-elect of International Labor and Employment Relations Association (ILERA). He received his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California at Berkeley. After teaching at MIT he came to the New York State School of Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University in 1985.
His research focuses on new structures for labor-management relationships in the United States, and his work argues the need for a more cooperative system. He is an expert on labor relations in the automobile and telecommunications industries both in the U.S. and abroad, and is often invited to lecture about those industries and about current labor-management relationships in general.
Katz is the author of several books, including Shifting Gears: Changing Labor Relations in the U.S. Automobile Industry, The Transformation of American Industrial Relations, Converging Divergences: Worldwide Changes in Employment Systems, and the widely used textbook An Introduction to Collective Bargaining and Industrial Relations.

Prior to the pandemic, NorCal LERA planned to meet in Pleasanton, CA, just outside San Francisco, at the Pleasanton Marriott for dinner and program. However, for the safety of our members, NorCal LERA now plans to host this event virtually, with a meet and greet, followed by keynote speakers, then breakout session topics.
