Virtual Meeting

COLERA is offering “free arbitration skills training” to our members.  Each session is approximately two (2) hours in duration and will begin at 11:30 a.m.


Speaker

Our speaker for this session is Arbitrator James Ellis.

Mr. Ellis is a graduate Industrial Engineer from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan,
served as the Personnel and Legal Officer of a U.S. Navy Seabee Construction Battalion for 2 tours of duty in Vietnam, and is a graduate of Harvard Law School. He taught Corporations, Agency & Partnership, Legal Ethics, and Small Business Problems at the Detroit College of Law in Detroit, Michigan, and subsequently at the Thomas Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan.

Mr. Ellis has been an independent Labor Arbitrator for over 20 years and has decided discipline, contract interpretation, and plant closing cases in automobile manufacturing and auto supplier factories, casinos, state correctional facilities, warehousing facilities, utilities, schools, nursing homes, police, and fire departments, trucking facilities, and aerospace parts manufacturing facilities. These cases have involved skilled and unskilled workers as well as clerical office staff of these facilities. Mr. Ellis is a member of the following Labor Panels: Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service,  American Arbitration Association
Michigan Employment Relations Commission, State of Ohio-AFSCME Mediation Umpire Panel, State of Ohio-SEIU Mediation Umpire Panel, City of Detroit-Amalgamated Transit Union Umpire Panel, Greektown Casino-UAW Umpire Panel (Detroit, Michigan)
