NLRB and the Workers’ Rights Institute

Mark Gaston Pearce is a visiting professor and executive director of the Georgetown University Law Center, Workers’ Rights Institute and previously taught at Cornell University’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations as a visiting scholar and lecturer.  He also serves as a panel labor arbitrator and mediator for AAA and FMCS and is a member of the National Academy of Arbitrators.  Formerly a two term Board Member and Chairman of the National Labor Relations Board, Mark currently serves by appointment of the President on the Federal Labor Relations Authority’s Federal Service Impasse Panel.  A graduate of Cornell University and State University of New York at Buffalo Law School with over four decades of experience in labor and employment law, Mark worked with the NLRB as an attorney and district trial specialist before continuing his career in private practice.   Mark is the co-founder of the Buffalo, New York labor law firm Creighton, Pearce, Johnsen & Giroux where he practiced until his appointment to the NLRB.  He formerly served by appointment of the Governor of New York State as a Board Member on the Industrial Board of Appeals and also served as a certified mediator for the United States District Court, Western District of New York. Mark has lectured and given continuing legal education presentations for numerous universities, state and national bar associations, business groups and labor organizations. He has, for decades, mentored law students, through the AFL-CIO, SEIU, the Peggy Browning Fund and through NLRB outreach.  Twice recognized by Superlawyers of America, Mark, in 2022, received honors for his achievements on behalf of workers at the 25th Anniversary celebration of the Peggy Browning Fund. He was named a Champion of Workplace Justice by the Employment Justice Center of Washington, D.C. and placed on the 2016 National Employment Law Project Honor Roll. Mark has written extensively and is frequently interviewed by the media regarding current trends in labor law, including appearances on CNBC, NPR and Al Jazeera. In addition to his legal career, Pearce is an accomplished oil painter. He formerly served on the board of directors of Buffalo Arts Studio and the advisory council of the Burchfield Penney Art Center and has exhibited at several venues throughout the years.  See www.markgpearce.com.
