Employment Relations in Healthcare

Is There a Better Way?

For the first meeting, on October 18Prof. Paul F. Clark, the current President of National LERA will speak on the topic “Employment Relations in Healthcare: Is There a Better Way?

Dr. Clark is a professor and the former Director, School of Labor and Employment Relations, Penn State University.  He has written or edited five books, and has published over 70 book chapters, research articles and research reports, with an emphasis on collective bargaining in the coal, steel and healthcare industries.

Dr. Clark will discuss labor-management partnerships and their contributions to improving outcomes in the healthcare industry, citing successful examples from around the country, such as the well-known example at Kaiser Permanente Health System, but also lesser-known successes, including  the U of Vermont Med Center, the UMASS Memorial Medical Center, the Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, and the LA County Health Department. We will learn what makes these partnerships work and what lessons there may be for other industries.
